Who are we?

The University for Applied Sciences for Intercultural Theology (FIT) in foundation, former Missionsseminar Hermannsburg, is an institution of the Evangelical Lutheran Mission in Lower Saxony (ELM), which is supported by the Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Hanover, the Evangelical-Lutheran church in Brunswick and the Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Schaumburg-Lippe.

For more than 150 years theologians and missionaries have been educated on an academic level to serve overseas. This programme will terminate in summer 2012.

What do we offer?

Since 2009 the focus of our education lies on "Intercultural Theology". In cooperation with the Faculty of Theology of the Georg-August-University Göttingen, a two-year master- programme in English is offered.

Starting with the winter term 2012/2013 the following BA programmes are planned:

-  BA Intercultural Theology, Migration and Church Leadership

-  BA Mission Studies and International Diakonia

What is special?

Small classes, individual support and close contact to the lecturers are self-evident and contribute decisively to successful studies.

On top a library of at present around 75.000 volumes is open to all students.

The proximity to the mission society allows for encounters with ecumenical guests from all over the world and offers a variety of placement opportunities in social-diaconal and development projects in Southern Africa, Latin America and Asia.

The students themselves also have different cultural backgrounds.

To study in Hermannsburg means also learning and living in a community. The campus comprises lecture rooms, a canteen, a library and offices of the lecturers as well as student appartments and a chapel, offering regular prayers.
